If you are new to commissioning photography, design or illustration the following might be helpful.

GENERAL

 1) I have a controlled budget to work with, can you work with me on it?

In the sections below are examples of my hourly rates. However, I am aware that projects are sometimes limited to a budget, often dependent on grant funding etc. Therefore I am happy to discuss your needs and suggest what work I am able to supply within your budget.

2) I live a long distance away from your studio in Ceredigion, West Wales- is this a problem?

No, this is usually not a problem. I work on a number of design and illustration projects for clients up and down Britain using the internet and handy programmes for quickly sending high resolution files. So there is no need for you to travel anywhere if you don’t want to.

Regarding photography and fine art repro- obviously you may have to bring items to me at the studio. Some items may be sent by courier, there is somebody at the Creative Mwldan studios to sign for deliveries from Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm.

If you are travelling a long distance you could always combine your trip with a short break in the area- it’s a beautiful area to visit!

PHOTOGRAPHY

1) How much will it cost?

Every photography shoot that is commissioned will be different. If you send me a detailed description of the photography you require I can reply with an estimate.

I have a basic rate of between £25 - £50 per hour depending on various criteria for example- whether it is shot in the studio, it is a simple pack shot requiring the same lighting and background or a more dynamic and creative shot. Whether it is shot on location and lighting equipment needs to be transported etc.

2) Can I use the images for whatever I want?

I will supply you with a CD with all selected images. With this I will issue a licence to use the images as agreed in the estimate. The ‘licence to use’ covers i) Media Use e.g brochure, website, poster,  ii) Period of use,   iii) Territory.
In the future if you want to use the images outside the licence I can issue an additional usage licence. I always retain copyright of the images unless there is a prior agreement.

DESIGN

1) How much will it cost?

Again, design costs will vary depending on the nature of the job. Please contact me for an estimate.

Graphic design ranges from £25.00 per hour.
Logo’s start from £100.00

2) You don’t have what I want in your portfolio, should I contact you?

Yes. I enjoy working on a wide variety of subjects and can pull together experience from a variety of fields and associated colleagues. It might just be that I haven’t been asked to consider a project like yours yet. Contact me to see if I can help.

ILLUSTRATION

1) How much will it cost?

Illustration can be commissioned in the same way as design work and will vary depending on its final use. As a basic rule, illustration fees start from £25.00 per hour.

I also work for publishing companies and image libraries where a royalty commission is agreed.

FINE ART REPRO

 1) How much will it cost?

Fine art repro services including digitally photographing artwork in the studio and colour correcting is charged at £25.00 per hour.
There is a minimum charge of £25.00 (which covers the set up fee.) Therefore it would be more cost effective to have more artworks recorded at one time than one every now and then. I can give you an accurate estimate of time required and cost, please contact me with your requirements.

High resolution flat bed scanning and negative and transparency scanning is charged at £5.00 per scan.
If the resulting image is poor due to the quality of the original I am able to retouch and/or colour correct the image at a charge of £25.00 per hour, if required.

2) Can you photograph images that are framed behind glass?

Yes, in most cases it is possible to photograph the image with careful positioning of the lights and camera.

3) What is the maximum size of artwork you can photograph?

Normally I shoot overhead and I am able to record artworks up to approximately 1m x1m / 44” x44”. For larger pieces it is possible to adjust the lighting set up if necessary.
